Il Cantuccio, short review, lovely place

Judith Hurley | Jul 6, 200409:29 PM

We had dinner last night at Il Cantuccio on 16th near Guerrero. It was exceptionally pleasant. The service was over the top -- we were looking for an early dinner spot, and arrived at 5, thinking that was the opening hour. The server set some tables and chairs outside for us, and took an order for wine so we could amuse ourselves while she set up to open at 5:30.

At 5:15 she showed us to a table set and waiting, and from there we were served with charm and grace. I had the fettucine with salmon, my husband had lamb shank with polenta, and our friends had marsala chicken. Everything was delicious.

It's a small pretty place with a warm feeling, one of those rare places that really reminds me of Italy -- you feel as though you were invited in because it's someone's special pleasure to show you hospitality. For those among us who really can't enjoy a place that's too noisy, this one is a winner, a place to go when you're with people you'd like to talk to.

I've never noticed Il Cantuccio mentioned on this board, and we happened on it quite by chance. Maybe it's really well known, but I'm happy to have found it.
