I just watched an episode of "Unwrapped" on the Food Network and the subject was TV dinners. As someone who still watches Brady Bunch reruns and loves kitsch, I found the show to be pretty entertaining!
They interviewed the guy who came up with the idea for the TV dinners. They went inside the Swanson factory and showed the process of making the fried chicken and turkey dinners. To put it mildly, it was disgusting.
Anyway, the point of this is that on the show they mentioned (and went to) a restaurant in the East Village called "ike". They offer Swanson TV dinners on their menu.
I searched on Chowhound, but didn't come up with anything on the place. Has anyone been there? I don't really have much of a desire to go, but I'm just curious about it.
By the way, the 3 best-selling Swanson TV dinners are turkey, roast beef and fried-chicken. According to the the restaurant "ike", their best-seller is salisbury steak.
Anyone have a childhood favorite?
