Idylwood Hispanic Market (Falls Church)

Meg | Feb 27, 2008 07:34 AM

Stopped in the other week at the recommendation of a shelf stocking clerk from Giant (Giant was out of chipotles in adobo sauce). It's in the same strip mall as Idylwood Grill (behind the Whole Foods on 7). Doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's a very well stocked, and very well kept, clean market. I've been back twice since. Great variety of hispanic foods (obviously), as well as fresh produce and meat. . Haven't tried their meats, but their jalapeno peppers are kickin' hot. I've been so frustrated recently with compeltely tasteless jalapenos from Giant, Safeway and Whole Foods.

When I was checking out, a young hispanic woman lifted the lid on a warmer sitting next to the checkout counter, and looked terribly depressed to find it empty. I asked the cashier and she said it's usually full of home made chicken tamales. Looking forward to getting there earlier next time.

The staff are also very friendly. I was wandering looking for sour cream last night and was offered help without asking.

Just wanted to give a plug for what I suspect is a family run business that deserves patronage.
