When I was a teen, I came across an entire magazine dedicated to the best 100 food things of the year. It was Saveur Magazine and it comes out around this time a year. I let the subscription expire, but would go out and buy that one copy. (Do they still do This?)
One year. One of the top 100 was a worn out wooden spoon. I guess it hit a chord with me. I have several wooden spoons but I always reach for the same one. It’s tattered. I’ve taken a pocket knife and whittled off bad sections of the bowl section. It’s almost caught in fire. It’s stained. I got the thing for free! When I moved into a home, the local grocery store mailed me a coupon for one free kitchen item. It was that spoon. I almost tossed it today. I washed it, whittled a soft spot off the bowl. I put it back. Haha. I bet it’s 15 years old.
I agree. I’m odd. I’m over fancy gear. I really need to start reaching for a different wooden spoon. Time to get the ugly started on it. It’s weird having a favorite.
