Houston's Cheese Burger

A recent post suggested this was the best burger in LA. Had one yesterday. It's not bad. Half pound of beef (ground chuck), tomatoes, pickles, shredded lettuce, cheddar cheeese. It's a handful and you can get pretty good skinny fries with it. The cheddar's a plus, the lettuce was flavorless, the pickles were not the usual dills (sweeter). Doesn't drip much--leanness? All in all a good burger for $9 but lacks the rough and ready, down and dirty what the hell greasy taste that the really good burgers have. This is just a more refined burger, perhaps what Houston's is shooting for. Better to my tastebuds was a smoked salmon appetizer ($11 ouch!) served with plenty of toast points and some kinda mayo-ish, tarragon sauce.
