Houston - South Philly Steaks

I just thought I'd throw out my recommendation for a new restaurant across the street from UH, South Philly Steaks, specializing in Philly cheesesteaks. They've been open maybe a month or two now, and I stop by at least once or twice or three times a week.

In my opinion it's the best in town...better than Jake's, and it puts to shame the only other option for cheesesteaks near campus, Philly Connection. Of course people will argue, assured, South Philly is good stuff. Loads of meat, your choice of cheeses (including the whiz), plus some very good non-cheesesteak sandwiches as well (e.g. Italian, meatball, etc.)

South Philly is at the corner of Alabama and Scott Street, across the street from Robertson Stadium. It's a great place to pick up some pre- or post-game meals for basketball games (and baseball, now that it's in season!) Ever since I started eating there, the Coogs have gone on a winning streak, beat Top 10 Louisville, have been shooting up the conference standings, have turned their record around from 9-18 last season to 18-10 so far this season, and are now legitimately on the bubble to make the NCAA tournament. Coincidence? Hmmmmm....

Try 'em, though. I think they do a great job there, and are a welcome addition to the other great campus joints, Frenchy's and World Class Soul Food.

They're open till around 10pm seven nights a week.
