I know one of the sticking points for people about Hot Doug's has been that the fries were cooked too low (a claim which started in a review which Doug, with admirable openness, has in the front window) and were kind of mushy and too greasy as a result.
I just went there today and I can report that Doug either 1) came to the same conclusion, 2) reads his reviews, or 3) reads Chowhound, because the fries were MUCH crispier and less greasy today. In fact, they were... damn fine.
Also excellent was the lamb sausage, which was as strong as it ought to be but no more. I am increasingly convinced that Hot Doug's is coming into its own, making the transition from Amusing Concept to Living Chow Treasure.
