Best Hot Dogs in the Triangle?

Guilty Gourmand | Aug 29, 2017 05:04 PM

I know there have been prior posts on this topic in general but I don't recall seeing one in awhile and the recent overrated / underrated discussion got me thinking about this topic.

In particular, I find the Roast Grill's hot dogs overrated. I love the lore and the people and the place in concept but I don't find their hot dogs very good. I don't like burned, the chili is too runny and the taste just isn't what I'm after.

That said, I much prefer their dogs to those of Tasty 8s or these other fancy dog places that add on all sorts of creative toppings that don't belong on hot dogs and seemingly require that the dogs be split in half or spiral cut, etc. to help hold the toppings.

Perhaps the problem is me and I just don't know what I'm looking for but I tend to find the street vendor dogs around Raleigh as good as those at any restaurant. Snoopy's is ok to me as is Pharaoh's but neither is great. Char Grill and Cookout don't do it for me. Highway 55's dogs can be ok but not really what I have in mind. I'm looking for more of a hot dog shop along the lines of PB's in Winston-Salem or Dick's in Wilson I think. What local spots am I missing for a really good but basic hot dog?
