Tomorrow evening, I'm surprising my English friend (it's the 30th anniversary of her arrival from London to New York) with an "All-American" supper. Lots of silly Americana up on the door, models of the Statue of Liberty, NY taxi cabs, etc, etc. And some down-home hamburgers, hot dogs, cole slaw and so on.
Question? I'm an eater--but not much of a cook. What's the best way to prepare the hot dogs? (There's only 4 of us--so, only 8 hot dogs are needed.)
The only methods I've ever used are (1) my Mom's old "cook in an inch of water" (why did everyone in the 50's and 60's boil the flavor out of their food??) and (2) microwave (no comment!)
Surely, there's a more juicy way to present the humble hot dog. Unfortunately, I'm more a student of Gray's Papaya--than Julia Child.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!
(PS I scanned the boards, but haven't seen this topic.)
