My husband and I had dinner at San Marco restaurant in Spring House on Valentines Day. We had heard some great reviews. It was a huge dissapontment!!
We had reservations for 7PM (made over 2 weeks in advance). We arrived promptly but were left waiting in the foyer for 10 minutes then we were hustled to the crowded bar area where we were left waiting for another hour. We were not seated until 8:10 - an hour and ten minutes after our reservation with no complimentary drinks (the wait added another $50 bar tab to our bill), not even an apology. I was further disappointed to learn that their dinner menu was replaced with a very limited Valentines Day menu with entrees nearly double in price! This was never highlighted on the website; nor were we told this when we made reservations. They had "jammed" the dining room full of tables so it felt like a crowded mess hall. Our server was extremely harried and paid no attention to us after taking our order. Our water glasses were not refilled during the entire dinner and we had to ask for bread which we did not receive until after we were well into our appetizers. Our empty dinner plates sat at our table for nearly 15 minutes. In fact, I noticed that a couple sitting next to us had received their entrees after we had finished ours; however, their dinner dishes were cleared before ours. When we paid our check, our credit card was lost for a few minutes. I would not complain if I experienced this type of service at a local chain restaurant; however, at an upscale restaurant where we paid nearly $200 for dinner and drinks, I find this very disappointing.
I have never in my life written a letter of complaint, but I actually sent a letter to the owners of the restaurant. I never received a response back at all, which I find surprising and kind of insulting.
I know quite a few people on these boards rave about San Marco, so I wanted to see if anyone had any similar experiences. My husband wants to give them another chance (on a less busy night), but I'm skeptical.
