Despite the tepid comments on this board, I decided to stop by Hop Woo in Alhambra (Garfield@Main) anyway, since I'll try any Chinese restaurant once no matter how bad the reputation. While only having time for a quick bite, based on the one dish I tried, I do intend to go back to check it out further. The sweet and sour fish fillet turned out to be one of the best versions of a difficult dish I can remember, since many places miss on the fish, the sauce, or both. Incidentally, while I am not particularly familiar with the predecessor Golden Lion restaurant at this location, I had heard it was pretty good, and the new Hop Woo may be using Golden Lion's chefs and staff. I heard something about the old restaurant closing because of a dispute between the owner and the chef, and that the chef wanted to re-open at the same location with a new backer.
