I was walking near May Hong yesterday and decided to check out reports that it was closed. There was a closed sign on the door, but there were some lights on inside and when I leaned against the door to get a better look it started to swing open. Now on a chowhound mission, I went in and looked around.

There were a couple of ladies eating lunch in a side room, but they were unable to answer my questions (some combination of language difficulties and not knowing the answer), so I headed back toward where the lights were on in the kitchen, and committed a cultural faux pas: I apparently interrupted a man performing his devotions (elaborate makeshift alter, burning incense, apron rigged like a Buddhist monks' robe). He said they would "probably" open "next week." My guess is that they are closed for extended Tet observations (Vi's is also closed until March 5).

So that's the scoop -- I hope ruining my karma was worth it!
