Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken

WTW | May 23, 200506:34 PM

In a word: mmmmmmmmm!

Went to the one in Culver City (9537 Culver Blvd.) at around 1:45. I ordered the 3-strip chicken breast meal, which is cooked to order.

They had some pre-cooked breasts & thighs sitting under heat lamps. I can't vouch for how good they are but their breast strips are TASTY!. The batter coating has some definite flavor and the chicken can be eaten plain or with their hot sauce. I fell in love with the hot sauce. It has a sweet tang with a firey finish.

I'm not a biscuit fan. In fact, I usually avoid biscuits. But these were soft & delicious. The right combination of moist & flakey, if you know what I mean. If I had biscuits like this when I was a kid, I'd be a total biscuit fan!

French fries: quite tasty! Lots of potato flavor. They put a spiced salt on 'em. Extra good dipped in their hot sauce.

The pickles were the only downer IMHO. They were sweet butter pickles (?) I'm not too fond of the sweetness. I much prefer a tart dill pickle. But to each his or her own.

A friend got the apple pie and said it was fantastic. I got the pecan pie but I'm still too full to try it. It looks good, though!

$5.49 for the meal and $1.95 for the pie.

I did take-out... waited about 15 minutes for the food to cook (they warn you about cooking times on the menu. A BIG plus). The seats were comfy but the TV was too loud. Not a big deal.

The kitchen's super-clean and the place appears to be very well run.

Can't wait to go back!
