Home Cooking DOTM - January 2022 Nominations

MelMM | Dec 21, 202101:28 PM     41

It is time to select a dish to cook together for January. January to me is a month of liberation: from holiday obligations, from the tyranny of local produce from my CSA... a great time to explore and do something fun and new.

If you are new to Dish of the Month, here is how it works: You can nominate / second as many dishes as you’d like. Just be sure to put your nominations / seconds in ALL CAPS. There will be a nomination period (ending at 10am EST time on Tuesday, December 28), and then I’ll let you know that the voting thread has been put up, and we’ll vote on the top nominees. On the last day of the month at closing time, we’ll have a winner.

We sometimes have confusion over what makes a dish. A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. So while chocolate is not a dish, chocolate mousse is a dish. It doesn’t have to be terribly specific, you don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” you can just nominate “tomato soup.” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet or jambalaya.

We love having people add to these threads, so if something you’d like to make has already been a Dish of the Month, I encourage you to add to the previous thread. The Home Cooking DOTM series has been running since August 2012. Over that period, we’ve already cooked more than 100 dishes. Here is a list of past DOTMs:

Again, nominations will close at 10 am EST time on Tuesday, December 28. The voting thread will go up shortly thereafter.
