An young and wild colleague offered to buy lunch after a business meeting today and suggested Houston's on 3rd ave & 53rd. As we were across from PJ Clarke's, I tried to steer the young buck to the other side of 3rd ave, but since he was buyin', if it's free it's for me. It was my first time in the joint and my boy suggested a cheddar burger. Being the burger snob that I am, I resisted. I am from the old school, ie, Donovan's in Woodside, JG Mellon's, Pete's Waterfront on Atlantic, etc., but since the business meeting I was coming from had numbed my brain, I mumbled to the waitress "gimme the burger."
Holy Crap! Is this place really a chain?
This thing was good!...It was juicy, but not a sloppy mess. It had a smok-i-ness and beef-i-ness that stunned me. On the side I asked for cole slaw and it delivered also. It was diced, tasty, crispy and was tinged w/ mustard.
Was I having a 1977, Forest Park Bandshell, LSD flashback or is this place really the goods?
Hounds, discuss........The Guvner
