Hollywood Bowl - Clementine Starter, La Cachette Picnic Baskets & Beard Papa's Review

Alice | Aug 4, 2006 06:09 AM

My family and I enjoyed some starters from Clementine, Picnic Baskets from La Cachette and cream puffs from Beard Papa's this past weekend at the Hollywood bowl. Overall it was a very nice, tasty meal.

Next time, I'd like the try the Mako bento box ;)

Details below ;) Enjoy! (This was for 7 (3 boys and 4 girls) of us and we were all stuffed.)

*~Beautiful Cheese Plate~*
A delicious selection of domestic and imported cheese with dried fruits, rustic bread pecan raisin crisps - This was and is our favorite tradition for the last 3 years. I tossed the paper, but there were 4 kinds - St. Andre, goat's milk cheese, sheep basque, and a 4th hard, drier cheese. The raisins on a vine, dried fruits and especially the crunchy pecan raisin crisps complimented the cheese perfectly.

*~Double Dip Special~*
Sun-dried Tomato Dip and Romesco (Spanish red pepper dip) served with crostini and crudites - the crostini and crudites were crusty on the outside and chewy and soft on the inside and the crudites were crispy with a light glaze of butter. Our favorite dip is the spanish red pepper dip, but both dips were excellent. Carrot sticks and celery sticks were also provided.

Main Courses

*~Menu Une ~*
Smoked White Fish Salad with Potatoes and Caviar - the smoked white fish tasted like lox and was not too fishy. the caviar was a nice touch

Grilled Filet of Beef with Shallot Melt and Roasted Potatoes - the filet was a good cut of meat and very flavorful, it was cooked medium rare and not too tough, although a little tougher on the outsides.

Blueberry Tart with Black Currant Sauce - This was a little too soggy, seemed more like blueberries in sauce on a tart.
La Cachette Homemade Cookies

*~Menu Deux~*
Roasted Red Beet Tower with beet jus with a touch of Cumin, Feta Cheese, and Goat Cheese Raviolis - I loved this dish, but maybe it's because I love beets. The little goat cheese raviolis were so adorable and a nice accent of flavor.

Butternut Squash Raviolis with Spinach and Porcini Sauce - the butterfly raviolis were filled with slightly sweet butternut squash and complemented with a slightly sweet porcini sauce, on top of a bed of spinach - a definite favorite.

Mixed Berry Salad - the berries, and fruit were all very fresh, and we had them exclude the grand marnier sauce.

*~Menu Trois~*
Ahi Tuna Tartar with Toast and Capers - a good rendition of ahi tuna tartar, good tuna, good flavor

Lobster Salad with Truffle Oil and Artichoke Hearts and Asparagus and Mixed Greens

Thin Apple Tart with Caramel Sauce - the tart was buttery, the apple slices had good texture, much better than the blueberry tart.

La Cachette Homemade Cookies - good chocolate chip and assortment of cookies

*~Beard papa's Cream Puffs~*
Chocolate, vanilla and green tea. Have to say I love the chocolate and vanilla but not a fan of the green tea.
