Hog Island Oyster Bar

Three of us went to the new Hog Island Oyster Bar in the Ferry Building last night and were thoroughly charmed. It's a small U-shaped bar with a few tables to the side, but it feels spacious, as one whole wall is a window looking out at the Bay and ferry dock. It's going to be a beautiful place to hang out in the summer when it's still light in the evening. We had a dozen Kumamatos, and another mixed dozen of Atlantic, Sweetwater and Kumamoto oysters, all of which were fresh and delicious, and reasonably priced at $20 a dozen or $37 for two dozen. Wine is also very reasonably priced (we paid $18 for our bottle of Leon Beyer). Staff is quirky, helpful and just generally so delightful that we left a bigger than usual tip. This place is a winner!
