Hip in Milwaukee....

Altoclefgus | Jul 18, 2013 01:02 PM

When asked recently on this board for a list of restaurants in Milwaukee that are "imaginative and hip" a perceptive responder mentioned in passing that deciding what is "hip" is a subjective judgment; something determined by "the eye of the beholder." True; what is hip to one person may be intolerable to another. This makes me curious. What are some "hip" Milwaukee eateries and or pubs. What makes them that way?

Here is my (incomplete) list:

Huan Xi (Murray Ave.) the food is alway tasty, sometimes superb, and the propriator's small children are often being tended to by the propriator's parents. This domestic/culinary scenario could easily fool the customer into thinking that they are having dinner in someone's kitchen in a suburb of Shanghai.

For me, that's hip.

Mister SeƱor (also on Murray Ave.) The burritos and nachos (take-out only) are served up (on the right day) by a gentleman whose name is "Dude".)

For me, that's hip.

McBob's (North Ave.)

Upon completing my first Mexican plate (very tasty!) at this venerable west side establishment, I was presented with a bumper sticker that said : "I lost my taco virginity at McBobs."

For me, that's really hip.

Anyone want to make the list longer?
