Yesterday one of the stores I shop at got in a bunch of heirloom tomatoes. They had about ten different kinds all at 5 dollars a lb. I took a brandywine home to see if all the comments I had heard about it were true. Wow... this was a tomato I remember from my youth when tomatoes were tomatoes. Just pluck it off the vine... a quick wipe across the shirt(shirts were handy cure alls for everything in those days) and let the juices start to flow.
For you folks out there that feel you need foie gra with everything before you decide it is wonderful... sorry for this... I immediately made a tomato sandwich on homemade white bread with mayo. Wonderful stuff. It will be another year before we get to plant a garden but this goes on my list of things to plant first.
