Before coming to Redding, I knew nothing about Bethel. This religious community served as Salvation Army's donation & distribution center during the Carr Fire (August 2018). The HeBrews coffee counter inside was gorgeous. It serves Theory Collaborative's beans. I got a Shasta mango-ginger kombucha that was refreshing and not too sweet.
I'd been warned that Bethel is a cult. Still it was rather interesting to overhear a conversation between the Scientology volunteer ministers deployed here and a Bethel member. The kindness and service mission of Bethel won them over, I'd say.
