With, Like-Go-Eat?'s strong recommendation I was able to convince 3 other colleges to take a side trip to the Hollywood area to visit the Monastery of the Angels at 1977 Carmen Avenue. Now this required some convincing because we only had a car for 24 hours and we started at 12:30 pm. Picked up the peanut brittle, pumpkin bread and assorted chocolate boxes to take back home.
The peanut brittle was as described by others, really buttery with lots of whole peanuts and yet thin enough to easily break when bitten into. A nice combination of sweet and nuttiness that makes this the best peanut brittle I've ever had.
The pumpkin bread was nice, not too heavy with just the right amount pumpkin flavor. Will freeze one loaf for Thanksgiving.
The chocolates have not been opened yet but while we were at the Monastery some other "locals" were buying some boxes and they pointed out their favorites.
Definitely a must see/drop buy location for Chowhounds with a sweet tooth.
Mahalo to, Like-Go-Eat?
Also, had a chance to try Roscoes Chicken and Waffles (Just down the street from the Monastery) . The chicken was great, the mixed greens were good, the grits were just right, the cold water corn bread was really tough and the waffles were too soft. We were there when it was really busy so I'm not sure if this affected the corn bread and waffles.
