Finally made it to Hearth--went on a whim with my sister at 6:30 last night. I wasn't expecting Hearth to fully live up to all of the good press it's gotten (guess I'm a cynic), but it certainly met my expectations and more. The room was pleasant and seating was roomy, compared to most NY restaurants. Service was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable, and helpful. And the food was great! Started out with a parsnip soup amuse. For an appetizer tried the arugula and shaved fennel salad, while my sister had the gnocchi. Entree was braised bass--tender, flavorful--just wonderful. My sister had the pumpkin tortelli (perhaps Hearth isn't the best place to bring a vegetarian as that was the only veggie option on the main menu). Finally, dessert was a chocolate tart with peanut butter ice cream--certainly a pleasant end to a very pleasant meal. I will definitely be back!
