Blue Plate Cafe. Corner of Prytania and Thalia(?). I hear it's pretty good.
Has any one eaten there? Have gotten a couple of second and third hand reports but I'd like a few first hand reports before I establish it as an official lunch spot.
I hear from my eldest sister Ilana, who wanted to have an impromptou luncheon tea there, that St. Vincent de Paul Tea Room does tea by appointment only. Very disappointing.
Ilana has come to town to make arrangements for her daughter Jennifer to enroll for her freshman year in college at good old Sophie Newcomb. This is going to be a riot, as Jennifer grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where they live because her Dad works for the National Park Service. She's not at alla city girl and wanted to go to Duke or Richmond(?) instead, only to fall victim to family tradition.
We've agreed to give her a home away from home. You know, laundry priviliges, weekend lunches for her and her three best friends (whoever they turn out to be).
They arrived Sunday and Ilana has since turned my living room into her headquarters. Why all this is necessary, I'm not exactly sure because she has to live on campus. Ilana will leave next weekend but return for the move into the dorm in a couple weeks. Jenny will stay with us and get acclimated to the heat and bugs and all.
Jennifer is already a regular at Maple Street PJ's, where she says disgusting old guys are hitting on her and she met a tall, soon-to-be graduate student in philosophy (boy) who has crossed her eyes for her.
Last night we tried Franky & Johnny's for dinner. Not real good but the right idea about fried seafood. It was fair. Tonight we hit Lola's. I'm resisting taking Mr. philosophy doctoral candidate out to dinner until she's known him at least a month. Her mother says she doesn't object (Hmpf!). Tomorrow we BBQ. Thursday we hit Rio Mar. Friday will be one of the Brennan places in the quarter - Bacco, Bourbon House, Ralph's Steak House, Palace Cafe.
Will try and post reports. We're going to alternate buying dinners, so. I imagine he'll get to come at least once when Ilana's buying.
