Hayes Street Grill revisited

I did a search on Chowhound for reviews of HSG. It delivered uniformly disappointing reviews. I just went for a pre show meal and was quite impressed. We split a calamari salad which was decent- not great but good. We then had sand dabs which were fine; 3 perfectly cooked whole dabs, and 2 soft shell crabs (one had a bit better crunch) but they were a nice east coast treat, the fries that come with are perfect (at least that was uniform in the commentaries), we split a dessert of a stonefruit clafouti a la mode, a perfect finish. During prime time the price for an entree is about $20, an apps/salad about $10, and wines by the glass about 8-10.

I would be concerned (due to previous posts) that on on non prime time the kitch. may be lethargic because clearly the room & kitch. on my visit was energetic and spot on.

the best part for you hounds is that Sun- thurs. they offer a 3 course prixe fixe for $25. they have a website.
