Hayat Market

Great Middle Eastern/Pakistani market at the corner of Redondo Beach Blvd and the street that is one block east of the 405 exit. We are chewing on the nuts right now watching the US team whomp the Norwegians - those nuts are soooo fresh, almonds, pistachios and mixed. Even better than the Jordan Market in Westwood. A Morrocean guy owns the market which has a great array of meat (Halal), the meat counter person, Eddie cut us hunks of various feta cheeses, Hungarian, Bulgarian and French and they are quite different. Also bought some Rumanian cheese like a Jack. Lots of canned fish from Latvia and Russia, smoked Saur and many different sardines (just bought the ones in olive oil and skipped the "vegetable oil" based ones in consideration of my liver. Very fresh meat - kidneys, lamb leg, bought frozen quail, smoked fish (Morrocean) and Lebne plus tarramasala (sp?). Salwa at the check out gave me a good receipe for the smoked fish to cook it with onions and tomatoes - very nice people and warm service.
