Try it!!! So good on roast pork, with nothing else even, just this salt. Rub roast with 2 tbsp for a 5# boneless shoulder/butt, after putting little slits all over the roast. Then wrap in two layers of banana leaves and two layers of aluminum foil and then put in an open roasting pan for 5 hours at 350 and some water in the pan under the roast. I could not find banana leaves locally in time for this last roast, but boy, was it still excellent!

After shredding the cooled meat, you are supposed to mix some more of the salt with water and liquid smoke and pour over, to try to simulate Kalua Pig. I have not gotten that far, but I know it will be excellent as I had a heck of a time pulling myself away from just taking chunks off the roast while resting.

I found this salt at Raley's Market. I was told Trader Joe's carries black and red Hawaiian salt, but when I went yesterday, I found out they had discontinued both varieties.

I saved the salty water left over in the pan to cook some cabbage in.
