I visited Roxies Gulf Coast Kitchen for dinner last night. It's located on Franklin Avenue in the south end of Hartford. (it's very close to a few other fantastic houndy places such as Rosco's Big Dog and Mozzicato's Bakery)
I had a few Abiza amber beers which are brewed and bottled in Louisiana. They were quite tasty. We had the spinach and shrimp hot dip as an appetizer. Nothing special there...it was like any hot spinach dip with some shrimp in it.
There were some tiny pecan muffins provided in the complimentary bread basket which my dinner companions flipped over. They loved them!
The entrees we had were the Cornmeal Fried Gulf Shrimp (I thought these were excellent...very crisp). Another diner in my party had the (I think it was called) New Orleans Chicken dish (which she loved) and the third diner had the pecan encrusted salmon (also a hit). Also, everything was very reasonably priced and it was very difficult to decide what to eat because everything sounds dang yummy.
For dessert the three of us split the Blondie sundae (which was HUGE) which was excellent (and had a hint of peanut to the flavor).
The place was dead when we arrived around 6pm (we thought they were closed) but it started to fill up as we dined. The music they played (all blues) was fantastic as was the wait staff.
I look forward to returning.
