Many thanks to recommendations for brunch in Hartford this past weekend. My husband and I had an all Max weekend-we ate at three of the restaurants in the Max chain. Sat night we ate at Max's Downtown. We ate at the bar as we were going to a concert at the Meadows and were really not dressed appropriately to eat in the dining area (we were in jeans, t-shirts and sneakers). I had two specials-the crab and avocado salad and the shrimp and scallops with soba noodles for dinner. Both were really delicious. My husband had a tuna appetizer and the salmon entree. Both were really good, but he felt the salmon was a bit small. The service was great-the bartenders were very friendly. Sunday morning we had brunch at Max's oyster house in West Hartford. We sat outside and it was really lovely. I had the crabcakes benedict (not the actual name of the dish-but eggs benedict with crab cakes). Very good. My husband had clams on the half shell (very good) and a tuna entree which was also delicious. The service was very good as well here. Before the show Sunday night we walked over to Trumbull Kitchen and had dinner outside there. Dinner once again was very good. I had the beet and goat cheese salad (they were very good about making it a larger portion so it could serve as my meal) and my husband had the steamed chicken dumplings (only ok) and the pork chop entree (really, really good!)
This was our best trip to Hartford-in no small part due to the great meals-Thanks chowhounds!
