(I'd better quit this H trend while I'm at it.) Anyway, my friends and I want to get together for happy hour this week, and they've thrown the planning into my lap, all claiming that they can't think of a place to go. *sigh*
The last time I was given the reins, we went to PJ Clarke's, and it was a debacle of epic proportions. The food was overpriced and lousy, and the place crowded beyond belief. We hated it.
Now, my plea to all of you (less I suffer the fate of having to end up at Houlihan's...) Can anyone reccomend a place that's
* CHEAP. (and Clarke's was waay out of my friends' price range, for the most part. I'm hoping for no more than $8-10 pp for an entree, $5-8 for a sandwich/burger - that sort of thing).
* good Happy Hour Drink specials
* anywhere from Midtown (east or west, doesn't matter) south, will entertain idea of LES or lower. (Ulysses sounded great to me but I know right off the bat that they'll think it's too much).
* No Outer Boroughs. (sorry, but this is what I've been told).
Now, I've heard about Nice Guy Eddie's - has anyone been? Molly's on Union Square got a good writeup here. Do they do happy hour? Have also received suggestions of Joshua Tree on the east side as well as a couple of places on St. Mark's and on 2nd Ave.
as always, my humble gratitude preceeds any recs.
