What happened to Shanghai Dumpling King?

OliverB | Oct 11, 201502:53 PM     13

I just ordered in from Caviar and adjusted expectations for delivery service (especially for steamed dumplings, which I understand should be eaten hot and fresh) but the food that I received was completely inedible. I don't think I've ever had worse Chinese dumplings before anywhere in my life. The food went straight from the courier's hands to the trash. I suppose I'm partly to blame for ordering in, but I've done take-out orders and brought leftovers home after dimsum feasts that were still great the next day. I know that the restaurant switched locations some months ago but did the ownership change hands and kitchen staff switch over as well? SDK was never a favorite of mine, but I've never had such harsh criticisms of the restaurant before. The dumplings were all oily and mushy and the ingredients of seemingly poor quality (meat and seafood fillings) and all indistinguishable from one another. The lion's head meatballs which I used to love at SDK were a completely different recipe; they were flavorless and just plain bad. What happened to this place?
