What Happened to Bea's Bakery? Not so good.

NeNePie | Aug 7, 2005 11:45 PM

I grew up in Tarzana, and I have always liked Bea's a whole lot. Today we went and bought a variety of items to take home (a raisin challah, a black and white cookie, an almond cookie, a colored sprinkle cookie, and almond horn and a danish).

We figured we'd try the challah in the car. It wasn't so good. Very dry, even for challah. Disappointed, we tried the almond horn instead. It lacked good almond flavor (tasted like there was flour or some extender in the almond marzipan stuff). We gave up on that, too. With the exception of the almond cookie, which was fine (though not like before), we tossed out every item.

Everything tasted like it was made with shortcuts: cheap fats, prefab icings, etc.

Did ownership change?
