According to Marcia Gagliardi's Tablehopper newsletter, Hapa Ramen's new brick & mortar in The Mission serves "three flavors of ramen (ranging from the classic Hapa version for $16, ratcheting up to a duck ramen for $24)." (Current Hapa website actually shows $28 for the duck ramen and a vegetarian option for a mere $15.)
By contrast, Orenchi Beyond, touted by some as the first Major League ramen in SF, charges $11.80-$12.00 (according to menupages.com) and Ippudo NY charges a flat $15 for all varieties at dinner.
Is Hapa Ramen (or ANY ramen) worth $16-$28? Is a location in the heart of the Mission worth that much of a premium on prices? Is Richie Kakano simply a ramen rockstar with an astutely curated following?
