I went to Furaibo last night for the 1st time and one of the dishes we ordered was hanpen cheese, a fried, breaded fish cake stuffed with cheese.
Oh my. Think of memories of the gross, flaccid fast food Filet O' Fish with cheese sandwich and then turn your brain around 180 degrees. This was not gourmet, but when dunked in the accompanying dipping sauce and eaten with a dab of the provided spicy mustard, this dish was a mind melting mix of hot, fatty fish, cheese, spice (from the mustard) and salt goodness. The cheese oozed, the mustard hit the sinuses, the breading was crisp and the fish a mild vehicle for the salty diopping sauce. What's not to love?
Despite being full, we had to have another one. The only thing that keeps this from being a guilty pleasure a la the thread down the board is that this dish is done with care and done well - not healthy at all, but what's to be guilty about?!?
