Hand mixer beater style question

ThreeGigs | Dec 11, 201004:08 PM     9

My current hand mixer has given up the ghost. Along with some smoke and a few bearings. So, I'm shopping for a new one. Now, most of the ones I see here in Poland have only the wire beater type, not the heavier-duty central post kind. So I'm wondering if anyone can tell me of their experience using a hand mixer with a wire beater for heavier-duty jobs like cookie dough. I just have the feeling that the thin wires either won't adequately mix the ingredients or will bend and deform under such usage, ruining the beaters and thus making the mixer worthless for my purposes (e.g. a Toll House chocolate chip cookie recipe or a rolled sugar cookie recipe).

If there are any Chowies (Chowers? Chowhoundees?) in Europe, I'd also be happy to hear any recommendations you have. Philips, Bosch, Braun, Kenwood and Zelmer seem to be the major brands.
