Even with the Eater and Yelp pieces, I had no idea what I was walking into tonight. But now I do know , so I'm CH posting like I always do.
I don't have much energy to write a very detailed account, but leave it to say- if you visited that 'weigh and scissors-cut' pizza place
on Newbury Street and saw the writing on the wall (<6 months max>) the same feeling went through me at this new pizza and Roman restnt in Medford Sq. It's newly owned and opened by a Roman who thinks a Roman-way pizza place will work in Medford Sq. Not. The pizza, 13" only, has a thin live crust with an orange marinara sauce and fiore de latte as their standard cheese. The toppings, as in Rome, are minimalist (i.e. artichokes are long paper-thin wedges from, i am guessing, artichokes cooked on-site; ~4-6 slices per pizza;ditto the onion, sausage, pepper pizza ) In my experience it was 'authentic' and tasty and made for a nice snack, but not the entree that Americans are used to. The ambiance is '2001: the hair salon' and the waitresses know nothing, except David, who is the owner's cousin and absurdly illegally handsome. We would have ordered the arancini and pasta fagioli but at $9 and $12 respectively, we didn't. The menu has a number of appealing dishes, including risottos and polenta, veal and salmon. I bet they're nicely done.
