Lower Haight News: Rotee, Donuts & Breakfast, NoName Italian

Pssst | Mar 29, 200410:50 AM

The banner is up at the old Bleu location (400 Haight) - "Rotee: Indian-Pakistani Cuisine opening soon". Yes, its true, we'll soon have four Indian / Indian-Pakistani places in 3 blocks.

I dropped by Donuts & Breakfast on Saturday morning (mid-400 block of Haight was Massawa(?) and before that a burrito place). There was nothing that would inspire a return visit - the dark, grimy, uninviting decor; the dull menu and the street-scene outside, why bother? The interior has not been changed at all. The donuts were ok, but they are not made on site (the transport boxes were stacked on a back table.) The breakfast menu was limited and extremely uninspiring - eggs, potatoes, etc. Can anything survive in this location? Possibly, but its not likely that Donuts & Breakfast will.

After six months of off-again-on-again construction, equipment is finally being moved into the old Naked-Eye. Perhaps at last they have some traction and the Italian restaurant will be opening soon.
