Guests' first time in NY- two days of Great Food

We have sophisticated California guests next week who want some great food-price no object. We'd like to try some landmark NY places that have both a special atmosphere and fabulous food--we HATE Tavern on the Green type tourist traps. Our own favorites are Le Bernardin and La Grenouille but wanted something different with perhaps a view one night. We thought of River Cafe (not Manhattan, I know) but thought it may be a touristy place too.We tought of Asiate for the view but read some bad reviews here. Any ideas? Also need some fun places for lunch with (mature) 10-year old. Thanks
