How to please a grump aka not too much salt

So my husband can't seem to find much pleasure in the restaurants here(the upscale dining choices!). He laments our old SF favorites, we haven't lived there in 5 years I say! Surely there must be something that pleases you! We have been to Grace, AOC, Campanile, Lucques, Hungry Cat, Dakota, La Terza, Angelini and so on. He liked Hungry Cat and Campanile. Everywhere else he complains of salt, too much salt, not as good as somewhere in SF blah. We have a lot of neighborhood places we enjoy for a quick bite but we have a family member coming into town next week and they like to take us some place nice and I suggested we go back to Lucques but he says no. So, I am hoping someone out there can suggest some place with not too salty a dish and a little upscale that might please this man. Anywhere from downtown to Beverly Hills. Santa Monica if it's really worth it. I don't want to break the bank otherwise I would have suggested Capo or Providence. TIA.
