On Main Street in Half Moon Bay is an oddly innocuous building with a sign out front that says, LOCAL FATT (Food Awareness Through Teaching).

During the week, the commercial kitchen co-ops itself out to local Farmers and Instructors. Here, a farm can create a product for sale, teach a class, etc. Here is their website: http://localfatt.com/

But on weekends, the commercial kitchen - with its community tables - turns into a counter-service restaurant with extraordinarily exceptional burgers. EVERYTHING on the burger is sourced locally and house-made; from the ketchup to the pickles to the baked-in-house buns.

I've been twice now and the first time (I think it was their second or third week open), there were still some growing pains - like limp French fries. My fiance and I have had three different burgers now and each one has surpassed the last. Today's burger was adorned with Balsamic caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, and Blue cheese. I also had an amazing salad with Kale, cheese (sorry, don't know the producer!), and candied almonds - stunning at $7.00. The burgers are in the $9.00 to $13.00 range.

There is also house-made kimchee (my fiance had a kimchee burger last time), and a rotating offering of drinks and desserts. We had a lovely watermelon refresher with mint today and were sorry they were still getting the strawberry shortcake ready...

There are a few service mis-haps, but I am attributing that only to growing pains and needing to bring in more staff for the growing crowds. On our first visit, we were one of two couples on a lovely Saturday afternoon. Today, the place was busy with few seats left available.

This will be a burger to drive out of the way for. Our first visit also offered a fresh salmon burger, but we opted for beef both times. I don't recall if there was a fish offering today, but I do remember someone ordering a veggie burger.

This may become a weekend habit with me and I can't recommend it highly enough.
