With friends visiting from New York, we fell back on the ever-reliable Grotto.
First course of garlic soup, good summer tomato salads, and prosciutto-wrapped figs. One shared mid-course of a half of the stunning gnocchi with short ribs and Gorgonzola.
Entrees of an outsized full order of cavatelli with sausage and peas and mushrooms in a cream sauce; a beautifully presented skate; a sirloin (or was it tenderloin?; and a fabulous, massive pan-roasted pork chop (with nice cippolini and whipped sweet potatoes alongside).
One of each of the featured desserts: vanilla panna cotta, banana bread pudding, melting chocolate cake. A bottle of Chianti Classico to wash it all down.
Super-friendly, sweet, accommodating service. A leisurely-paced meal on a very busy weekend night. Taking advantage of the $30 prix fixe plus some extras, about $55 per person inclusive, another real bargain.
