Some out of town friends treated us to dinner at Greens recently. Greens doesn't get a lot of love on this site so I wasn't expecting a great meal but I was hoping for the best. It was a cold night and it was good to come in out of the cold and be warmly greeted. There was a baby in a stroller in our party and they made room for it right next to the Mom. Our server was personable and relaxed but professional. Water glasses were topped off frequently and the wine service went smoothly. The first courses, salads & potato griddle cakes were well received. Ingredients very fresh and well seasoned. Entrees were fairly generous in portion size and a few of them had a little zing in their seasonings. ( The filled crepe and the red curry ) The tofu /veg brochette was tasty but not spicy/hot. For dessert, the carrot cake was more on the cakey side than the traditional moist/dense version that is common - different but still enjoyed by those that chose it. The persimmon pudding was good: a dense, dark, sweet, caramelly notes.
Overall, prices are a bit high but they seem to be delivering. For me, it still wouldn't be my first choice for vegetarian fare but I'd feel better about returning if that situation ever came up again.
The room was pretty full for most of the evening. It was raining as we left but we went out into the rain feeling well fortified and in good spirits.
