I really enjoyed my dining in Vancouver. I was at Vij's for dinner, shared lamsicles and a venison dish, very unusual and wonderful. Was also at Wild Rice for lunch, had taro&crab cakes, squash won tons, fantabulous banana-plantain-etc pudding dessert, wonderful jade drink of some kind--this place was so good and conveniently located for me that I went there twice! I also liked the Cafe Artigiano and had coffee etc there several times. I also went to a Malaysian place, not as good as the others but OK, and had bubbleless bubble tea on Georgia Street. Thanks again for the recs. I never did get to any Japanese tapas places, but don't worry, I plan on going back! Thanks for all the Chowhounds recommendations.
