Unfortunately, La Vie and Jasmine House were both closed for lunch, but PPQ was open and very tasty. We had the fried softshell crab, as recommended--crispy without being oily. My friend had the chicken noodle soup, I had the bun with beef, and both tasted very fresh and zingy. We then finished with Joe's ice cream, which is my newest SF favorite. The Thai tea flavor tasted just like Thai iced tea, and if anyone has ever tried the Korean sweet red bean ice pop-thing, the azuki bean flavor brought back nice memories of eating them growing up. I loved it because it is so San Francisco--a Japanese-American family running a 50's-era ice-cream/hot dog place named Joe's. Finally, we did some grocery shopping at a Korean grocer (sorry, can't remember the name!) on Geary near 17th Ave. (on the right facing east) that had just made some fresh dduk (Korean rice cake), the white kind that usually has beans, but in this case had pumpkin/squash. We bought some while it was still warm, and it was delicious.
