We just returned from a pleasure trip to Richmond with our kids, and what a pleasure it was! Both my wife and I commented on how friendly everyone was!
Chowhound highlights were Sticky Rice and Kuba Kuba (on Lt's rec). Sticky rice had some of the best non traditional sushi I've ever had. The chili roll and the G.I. Jane were big hits. I had the Mongolian beef noodle bowl with soba. Although it was spicy enough to make me cry, I couldn't stop eating it was so delicous. Kids meals came with tater tots which I at first found strange, then I saw how much fun they had stabbing them with their chopsticks!
We almost gave up on trying to find Kuba Kuba because we had passed so many other interesting looking places. Man am I glad we didn't! From the anitpasta style app to the sweetened cafe at the end we had a great meal. My dad and I both had the paella that came in a bowl big enough to feed both of our families for several meals. The seafood and the tasso were excellent. My wife and my mom both had cuban style sandwiches that were tasty and crusty. Mom also ordered the black bean soup which had a nice whole bean consistency we really enjoyed. There was no kids menu but the waiter offered to make them a "cheesey/creamy pasta" without us asking. It was a big hit with all three. Off from the small but interesting wine list we chose a bottle of Albarino "Pazode Senoran" which paired perfectly with the paella.
The childrens museum and Maymont were great fun, even at 30 degrees and some rain.
Overall I had seven new beers I hadn't tried before, and that delicous wine. Can't beat a vacation like that!
