SOMETHING SWEET 177 1st ave@11th st 212-533-9986

One of the under-rated bakery that always is under the shadow of "tourists trap" Veniero's(I only like their sicilian cheesecake and banana strawberry shortcake).

I've been a big fun of S.S. for more than 10 yrs (they changed the name from Black Forest Bakery to S.S. about 5 yrs ago).Since they've changed the name and thire son started making pastries, they've added new cakes & sweets. And the mango mousse is the most successful product from these new stuff. This mango mousse is sooo good, and became a well known dessret for the locals, often sold out.

Recently, they've started making new kinds of mousse,
the Pear mousse and the Raspberry banana mousse. And these are even better than the mango mousse!Whomever makes these mousse,it must be a mousse master.

Both mousse are so rich & creamy and smooth. It has a nice consistency, and sweetness is just right.
The Raspberry banana mousse has a little dots of espresso, and the bitterness from these makes really stand out the sweetness of the mousse.
The mousse is $2.50 each.A real deal.

Don't forget their mini cup cakes. These cup cakes have vanilla or chocolate iceing on the top, instead of huge cream like Magnolia type's of cupcakes. To me,S.S.'s cup cakes have a better consistency and flavor than the other bakeries's one.$1 each.

Also, the apricot sandwich cookie is highly recommended.
