We were sick of turkey and wanted a meal out with friends. Someone suggested Banana Leaf in Bay Ridge and five of us had one of the most delicious meals ever! The chef serves mussels in a lemongrass broth that are great. We had these huge shrimp in a coconut crust that sound eh, but were fabulous; a skate that was topped with little sqares of eggplant and okra in a spicy paste and short ribs that were marinated in lemongrass and were served with a salad that had a really tart lemongrass dressing that we couldn't get enough of. We ordered the sesame creme brulee that's served with a home made strawberry ice cream, and he brought a lemongrass panna cotta and mango raisin cake to the table as a gift. The cake was okay; everything else was great. I've read on this board that some people think the chef's spicing is tame, but if that's the case, than he was in rare form this weekend.
