I stopped by Pita Hut, an almost invisible middle eastern place on 23rd Street west of 7th Avenue, just before they closed last night around 9:30pm and ordered a falafel sandwich, extra hot sauce. The sandwich I was served was wonderful. The falafel, while not at all heavy, were nonetheless robust and flavorful, and plentiful. The lettuce and tomatoes stuffed in the pita with the falafel were more finely chopped than I'm used to, which I liked and which made the sandwich easier to eat (although, like many falafel sandwiches I've eaten, it still fell apart before I finished). The tahini was not as thick as I'm used to, perhaps as a result of the added hot sauce, but I found that I preferred it to the thicker sauce I'm used to.
So, yeah, it's just a falafel sandwich, but I find that I am so often disappointed by the falafel sandwiches I find in the city. This one did not disappoint.
