Great dinner @ Memphis in Costa Mesa-

Went to Memhpis tonight and had a great meal. Here's the breakdown

Cornbread- Pass; Oily to the touch, dry in the mouth

Shoe String Fries- who knew something so thin and fried could be soggy?!

Gumbo- perfect amount of shredded pork and great cayenne kick. Just perfect

Pork Chop with grits, braised cabbage and sour cherry sauce- huge, moist chop with sour cherry sauce and wonderful grits. I would order this everytime.

Shellfish Jambalaya- Generous amount of shrimp, mussels and clams. Great dirty rice, flavored with andouille sausage. You could call it a Lousianna rissotto since it was so thick. All over a shrimp broth. Yum

Fried catfish with hushpuppies, collard greens and black eyed peas- thick (not but too much) crunchy cornmeal crust on a big slab of fish. Very well done, though a little lacking in salt. Hush puppies were huge and perfectly fried with a soft, flavorful cornmeal filling. Collards were a little lacking, and couldnt detect any sign of being boiled with a ham hock.

Service was great and attentive. Having a server that was covered in tattoos was an added bonus. Great bear selection and decent wine selection without high markup (though IMHO, beer is the way to go here). Will be back many more times.
