I found some great Belgian chocolate in Islip. This place has an assorment of homemade chocolate treats (made with high quality chocolate), some imported pieces and homemade fudge.
Here's what I had (I'll be going back soon)
Non-pareils - no doubt, the best I've had. A hearty drop of dark chocolate not a thin wafer.
Chocolate raspberry jell - I wasn't too keen on this one. Chocolate was great, but the filling just didn't work for me.
Belgian 78% Cocoa Dark Fudge - Let me say that I hate fudge. I always talk myself into buying it, because it looks some damn good (and no doubt my subconscious is dreaming of hot fudge or fudgy brownies). I always end up hating it for its sickening sweetness and texture. All this so that you'll be better able to judge its quality when I say that I actually liked this fudge, not loved yet, but I could have more than a bite without becoming sick to my stomach.
finally the strangest and best of all...
Strawberries and Cream - I saw a garishly pink white chocolate strawberries in the display case. I was afraid to order them because they remined me a little too much of Nestle's Strawberry Quick. I innocently asked about them and was offered a free sample. Not one to turn down free food (as a college buddy used to say, "If it's free, it's for me"), I prepared myself for a Frankenberry nightmare. Intstead, I was surprised by natural strawberry flavor. It was made with freeze dried strawberries, I found out after eating it. The free sample trick worked, since I bought a bunch to take home. Strawberry lovers should definitely try. Conveniently available via the internet (though in block for not berry shaped like in the shop). The web site also has blueberry and banana versions.
