Drifted into the Hell's Kitchen outpost of Sullivan St Bakery (47th St between 10th and 11th Aves) and my another-rainy-day blues were instantly lifted when I spied the return of...the fantastic schiacciata d'uva!! Chewy, yeasty flat bread (like their pizza bianca) dotted with sweet little champagne grapes and fennel seeds, glossed with olive oil and just a little bit of sugar. Italian heaven, $3 for a big square. They also had a great looking ricotta crostata, with a filling made from ricotta, eggs, choc chips, and candied orange rind--kind of like a Sicilian cassata.
